Apple New Year! This is a picture taken on December 28, 2012, of most of our Apple products we had with us during Christmas 2012. On the floor on the left is our first computer, bought in 1987. From the left: Sam, his wife Amber and their daughter Evelyn; Katie behind Suzie, her husband Adam with their son Tyson; Shelly and her husband Drew with their daughter Aubree between them and their daughter Kinzie on Drew's lap and their daughter Isabelle; Brian and his wife Brittany standing behind them, and Heidi and I.

A Winter Visit With The Shades

Last week, after Katie had her last final at school
on Thursday, the two of us went up to visit Shelly,
Drew and the girls. As soon as we got to their home,
it started to flurry, which turned into a steady snow.

Here are some pictures of the trip:

The next morning we woke up to about 3 or 4 inches
of snow. I got to shovel their porch and short sidewalk.
And then get the snow off of both cars.

Shelly found out about a local sledding hill that
was supposed to be pretty good. After some
dead-ends, we found the park and had it all
to ourselves most of the time. The local schools
had a delay because of the snowfall, so we just
waited until school was in session before
we headed out to go sledding.

Isabelle and Katie 'suiting up' for the sledding.

Aubree and her binky are all ready to go.

And we are off. We found a place to park at
the top of the sledding hill.

Katie was the first on to go down the hill.
She used the saucer to ride down.

Shelly and Aubree getting ready to
go down the hill.

And there they go. Aubree really liked the sledding.

Shelly and Isabelle all ready for a turn.

There goes Shelly and Isabelle.

Katie and Aubree watching Shelly and Isabelle.
You can really tell her how long the sledding
hill is by how small Shelly and Isabelle are
way off in the distance.

Break Time!
Time for a snack.

The girls are getting their mom.

Papa and the girls.

Shelly and me.
Yes I did go down the hill with Isabelle.
We went really fast, lost control and then crashed.
The sled and me both ran over Isabelle, and that
pushed her face-first into the snow.
She wasn't too happy about that, but after
I wiped all the snow off of her face and clothes
we had a good laugh about going fast
and crashing the sled.

and video of me and Isabelle sledding,

Here are some more pictures of the random
things we did while we visited:

Aubree is a TV junkie.
She loves to go down her indoor slide,
but is still glued to the TV while she does.

One of Isabelle's chores at 3 1/2 is to put
the silverware away from the dishwasher.

One of the days we went to the YMCA where
the Shades are members. While Shelly worked out
for a bit, Katie and I watched Isabelle in the daycare.
She cooked us lots of play-food in the
play-kitchen.

When Shelly was done exercising, it was
time for Isabelle's swim lesson.

We had to watch from outside the pool area,
I guess it was so we wouldn't be a distraction.
(What? Me be a distraction?)

This picture of Isabelle is taken through
the windows. You can see the reflection.

Though the kids are being taught the basics
right now, they all seem to love it.

All done with swim lessons.

One afternoon we went to see where Drew spends
his time at school. This is his office, which is
located off campus a few blocks- right in
downtown.
We then walked a few blocks to campus and
visited some of the sights.

Here are the Shades at the Nittany Lion Shrine.

Katie and I at the shrine.
The Nittany Lion is the mascot for Penn State.

Aubree really liked the lion.
When she first saw it from a distance,
she let out a 'Rar!' She does great
with all the animal sounds and
she definitely knows the sound of a lion!

This is one of the buildings that drew has
classes in. It was locked, so we couldn't go in.
It was so frigid the whole time we were visiting,
that we couldn't stay outside a very long time.
The hight temperatures were in the teens,
and the low temperatures were in the single digits.

Isabelle had a fun time covering me with
blankets and pillows. The way to get her to
do just about anything is to tell her not to do it.
It worked for Shelly when she was little, and
so far it works for Isabelle too.

Isabelle loves to play dress-up.
Here she is with one of her dresses and
some fairy wings. She gets upset when I take
her magic wand and tap her on the head and
say 'poof, you're a frog'.

Back to the YMCA. This time for dance lessons.
Isabelle is taking off her snow boots
to get ready to practice.

And Aubree is also a video junkie.
She is all plugged-in
while Isabelle is in her dance lesson.

Today there were only three girls in class.
The other two girls are a few months younger
and just ran around and did their own thing
most of the time.

One of the teachers is showing Isabelle how
to move her feet.

More dance moves.

The End.

Katie and I had a good time during our visit.
Katie drove us half way up to the Shades,
and drove all four hours home.
We drove straight through the Amish
country, but Katie didn't even run
any of the buggies off the road!
Great job, Katie!
