Katie decided to serve a mission several months ago and submitted her papers for one. 'Sister' Katie Nicole Menasco was called to serve in the Brazil Juiz de Fora mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from November 2013 to May 2015.
Katie left for the Missionary Training Center (MTC) in Provo, Utah on November 19, 2013 and entered the MTC the next day.

There she goes! The language in her mission is Portuguese and she was taught the language and other things while she was in the MTC. Visas for Brazil take forever to get. Her visa was submitted in June and as of January, she still did not have it.
Katie was in the MTC until December 31, then was reassigned to the Mesa, Arizona mission while she waits for her visa. She is assigned to a Spanish-speaking ward in Mesa. So she will really get to brush-up on her Spanish while awaits her visa.
Pointing to the area in Brazil she will be serving once her visa gets here. The Juiz de Fora mission is a little over a hundred miles northwest of Rio de Janero in southern Brazil.
